Becoming a USA Swimming Official

Do You Want to Try Something Different to Help Ad Astra Area Aquatics?

We need more officials!  It takes several officials to have an “official” meet so the times that the kids swim count as official times.  We need you!

Becoming a USA Swimming official is very easyand the benefits are great—front row pool-side standing at meets, refreshing splashes to cool you down, and a new knowledge of legal strokes and turns.  And best of all, free food in the hospitality room!

Step #1:

Go to the USA Swimming website, get a copy of the rulebook, and take the on-line test.

www.usaswimming.org

go to “officials”then >>> go to “officials online test”

You can get a copy of the USA Swimming rulebook at

http://www.usaswimming.org/_Rainbow/Documents/c2c0ba30-85e5-4254-a4bb-02dcafc64548/2010%20RuleBook.pdf

You will need to take the timer certification test first and then the stroke & turn test.  The results will be sent automatically to Missouri Valley Swimming.

Step #2:

Attend a new “stroke & turn” clinic.  The next clinic is October 1st IN LAWRENCE at the Indoor Aquatic Center.

October 1, 2011

7:30-8:45am Stroke & Turn Clinic

9:00-10:15am Starter Clinic

Please let Patrick Norman know if you will attend at: patrick@adastraareaaquatics.org

(It is helpful to have taken the on-line test prior to the clinic)

Step #3:

Steps (2 and 3) have been recently added.  AAAA will reimburse the costs for the following three items.  (1) You will need to become a non-athlete member of USA Swimming.  Contact Jolisa to help with this at businsessmanager@adastraareaaquatics.org.

You will the have to complete the following two items on the USA Swimming website prior to shadowing:

(2) Background Screening

 &

(3) APT Course

Then, you need to “Shadow” 6 sessions for training.  The Saturday Spooktacular meet October 22nd will be a great opportunity to get started!

Step #4:
