ABOUT

Patrick started Ad Astra Area Aquatics, Inc. in 2010 as the only coach directed swim team in the region. He serves as Head Coach, President, and CEO. Since the inception of the club, membership has grown from 12 members to as many as 150+. Ad Astra has become a nationally recognized club brand rooted in athlete centered, coach directed, parent supported swimming and serves as a sustainable club model
for teams around the country.

Patrick is the longest tenured Head Coach in Kansas. As Head Coach, he oversees day to day operations, club branding and leads workouts at all levels of the club. He has directly developed regional champions of all ages, Missouri Valley LSC Record holders, National Top 100 swimmers, Sectional Champions, Junior National and National qualifiers and Olympic Trial qualifiers. His swimmers have gone on to become NCAA record holders, NCAA National Champions and even American Record Holders. Under his tenure as Head Coach, Ad Astra as been named a National Age Group Top 100 Team (2021 & 2022) and has finished as an 18 time Top 3 team at the MVS Championships, including 8 First Place finishes. Ad Astra was also one of the first Safe Sport teams in the entire country and the first in Missouri Valley Swimming.

Since 2007, Patrick has been the co-owner of the Lawrence Swim School. This lesson business serves as an important branch of our swim team model. Thousands of kids of all ages and abilities have learned to swim here - extending the reach Katie and he have left on the local swim community. The swim school operates and owns a two-lane competitive swimming pool. This facility is also used to develop the youngest Ad Astra swimmers.

Since 2009, Patrick has assisted Missouri Valley Swimming as a contracted designer. He helped rebrand the LSC with new logo and support materials for national competitions. He was also lead creative, design and copywriter on the LSC's complete web redesign. You can continue to see his work on All-Star and Zone apparel each year. Patrick has also served as Age Group Vice Chair and Senior Vice Chair for the LSC helping shape policies and representing the region as a voter at USA Swimming National Conventions.

From 2002-2010 Patrick found his roots in coaching with Lawrence Aquahawks and Duke City Aquatics. In his first stint with the Lawrence Aquahawks he was an assistant coach leading Age Group swimmers in the Bronze, Silver and Gold groups. From there he moved to Duke City Aquatics (NM) where he was the lead Senior Coach. He helped grow numbers and develop numerous state champions and Junior National swimmers. In his second stint with the Lawrence Aquahawks, Patrick was named Head Age Group Coach where he led the 14-U groups, assisted the Head Coach with the National Group and performed various administrative tasks. It was during this time a Lawrence team won its first and only Sectional Championship.

Patrick is married to Katie Price. They have two children together, Austin and Annie. Patrick also has two children, Jay and Elle and Katie has a son, Ryan. Patrick and Katie live in Lawrence and lead Ad Astra together as a coach directed team. Patrick graduated from the University of Kansas with a Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. He was born in Columbus, Indiana where he swam for Donner Swim Club & Columbus North High School.

​Katie Price

Head Age Group Coach

ABOUT

Katie is originally from Mitchell, South Dakota. She began swimming competitively when she was 11 years old. Her love for the sport took her to Minnesota where she swam breaststroke for the Golden Gophers. There she was a member of the Big Ten Championship Team in 2008. She also set a School Record in the 200 Medley Relay and made the Big Ten Travel Squad in 2007 and 2008.

After two years, she transferred back to South Dakota to finish her collegiate swimming career for the Jackrabbits. In Brookings for the Jackrabbits, Katie went undefeated in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing her career with 40 wins over two seasons. She was Summit League champion, school record holder and league record holder in the 100/200 breaststroke races. During the course of her 2009-2010 collegiate season, Katie was ranked in the Top 15 of all NCAA women for the 200 breaststroke. She was voted Most Valuable Swimmer in 2009-2010 by her coaches and teammates and selected Summit League All-First League Team from 2008-2010. She was honored as a Division I Mid-Major All-American in 2009-2010 and as the Outstanding Jackrabbit Senior Athlete in 2009-2010. In 2016, Katie was recognized as the one of the Top 50 Female Athletes of all time in Jackrabbit history.

Her coaching journey began in 2010 as the Assistant Coach of the Brookings Swim Club and eventual Head Coach of the same program until 2011. After this, she moved to Lawrence in 2012 and was named Head Age Group Coach of Ad Astra Area Aquatics. Since then her leadership in this position has cemented Ad Astra as one the premier developers of young talent in the Midwest and the entire country. Ad Astra was named an ASCA Top 100 Age Group Team in 2021 and 2022. Her swimmers have been Missouri Valley, Zone and All-Star champions. She has developed 91 Zones swimmers and 98 All-Star swimmers as of 2024. She's coached swimmers to USA Top 100 All-time performances and the USA Swimming Central Zone Select Camps. In 2022, Katie was recognized as one of the ASCA TOP 50 Age Group Coaches in the United States. Beyond coaching, Katie is the Business Manager for Ad Astra. She is responsible for various administrative tasks making our team run smoothly. One of her many accomplishments on the business side includes leading Ad Astra to a Top 8 National Ranking for the USA Swim-A-Thon (2013-2014).

Katie has been active in Missouri Valley Swimming. She served as the Missouri Valley Age Group Vice Chair for six years helping make policies and severing as a voting member at the USA Swimming National Convention. She has led the Missouri Valley All-Star and Zone teams as Head Coach a total of 8 times.

Since 2021, Katie has been the co-owner of the Lawrence Swim School. She serves as Director and Head of Lesson Planning. She graduated from South Dakota State University in December of 2010 with a Physical Education and Health Teacher Education Degree.

Coach Lucy

Assistant Coach

ABOUT

Lucy is a Lawrence local. She began swimming competitively in the early 2000s and joined AAAA as an athlete in the team's first year. She continued to swim on the team through high school before going on to swim one collegiate season at the University of Nebraska Omaha. She moved back to Lawrence to finish her degree at the University of Kansas. Lucy has taught lessons with Lawrence swim school since her teenage years and picked up coaching with AAAA in 2015. Lucy enjoys working with swimmers of all ages and abilities. Lucy is a Title 1 Teacher at Sunset Hill.

Coach Max

ABOUT

Max swam on Ad Astra for 9 years. He is Literature Major at the University of Kansas and an Eagle scout. He is currently learning Japanese. He enjoys being an encouragement and a friend while witnessing growth from hard work. Max works with our Shooting Stars and Age Group Explorer. Max shows patience and provides a smooth transition into our beginning group.

Coach Ollie

ABOUT

Ollie Bream began swimming competitively at 8 years old, started coaching when she was in highschool, and joined the Ad Astra coaching staff in 2025. She graduated highschool from Firbank Grammar School in Melbourne, Australia in 2020. She graduated summa cum laude from Wooster in May of 2025 with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a minor in Education. Ollie attended the Division III Nationals for the 200 Butterfly three times as a varsity swimmer at The College of Wooster in Ohio. Ollie is starting her two year Master's program for Speech-Language Pathology at The University of Kansas and will graduate in the Spring of 2027. She hopes to work as a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist at schools before pursuing her Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology.

ABOUT

Philip Costello was raised in Olathe KS and attended Olathe East High School where he also swam all four years. Philip then went on to attend Saint Louis University where he swam for 1 year before transferring to KU to finish his college degree. While in Lawrence Philip joined AAAA and swam with the team during the 2023-24 seasons. Philip Competed in the Breaststroke events and has a particular love for technical analysis including sports science and performance analytics which he plans to help put to use with AAAA swimmers.

ABOUT

Lena Hasiuk swam competitively for 7 years, 5 of which for Ad Astra Area Aquatics. Now, she teaches lessons and coaches with Lawrence Swim School and Ad Astra. She is currently a senior at Lawrence Free State High School where she does competitive debate and is learning French. She loves teaching swimmers how to work hard, persevere, and have fun within the activity.
