Early Bird Meet Recap

Early Bird Recap

AAAA continued to swim personal best times, qualify for D2’s and D1’s, and qualify for Zones and Speedo Sectionals as we competed at the Early Bird Meet on Mother’s Day Weekend. 21 AAAA athletes participated in the meet with 600 other athletes from around the area.

A team highlight of the weekend was swimming 80% personal best times overall as a team. It is great to see such a great group of athletes continue to improve and participate in swim meets.

Faith Baxter, Rachel Nikolov, Finneas Nesbitt-Daly, Brandon Bunting, Susan Frick, and Maleena Hatfield all swam personal best times, lowering their times and getting closer to achieving a D2 time standard. They have been working hard in practice and swimming those D2 time standards are within reach.

Simone Herlihy started the meet on a high note for AAAA, swimming a ‘AAA’ time (Zone time) in the 50 freestyle. She also swam several other ‘A’ and ‘AA’ time standards. Claire Campbell took first in the 50 freestyle swimming a ‘AAA’ time and breaking the 30 seconds mark with a 29.99. Claire also dropped time swimming several ‘AA’ time standards and a ‘AAA’ time in the 200 freestyle. Marian Frick continued to dominate the breaststrokes, finishing first with a personal best time. She also swam the 200 freestyle for the first time long course. Janet Stefanov swam personal bests while achieving D1 and ‘A’ time standards.  Stephen Johnson added events to his D1 Line up and in the process dropped over 30 seconds in his 200 freestyle.

Our Elite Swimmers posted Speedo Sectional Cuts, which is great for this early in the season. David Christie swam personal best times in the 100 back, 400IM, and a sectional cut in the 100 fly. Mary Reed-Weston continued to swim personal best times dropping 10 seconds in two different races achieving D1 time standards. She is very close to achieving a LC AAA time standard. Cierra Campbell swam a personal best time in the 100 breaststroke and was on her best times for her other races. She finished in the top of her age group in her events. Carter Stacey dropped time in all of her events including a 7 second time drop in the 100 fly. Carter is very close to achieving D1 cuts for the summer. Canaan Campbell was using this meet to get into shape for attending the USA Swimming Zone Select Camp. Canaan was right on his best times, and has returned back from camp fired up to swim fast for the summer.

Danny Christie swam the highlight race of the meet when he went a 4:46.20 in the 400 freestyle. This time is a great achievement for a 12 year old and a ‘AAAA’ time standard. Danny has swam a ‘AAAA’ time standard at each meet this summer. Danny had another weekend of all personal best times.

AAAA will return to action this weekend at Beach Bash in Topeka. We have 40 athletes competing. Good Luck to all Swimmers!
