Season Review 2013
We had a very successful December and capped it off with a great trip to the Oklahoma City Pro-Am Swim Meet. AAAA swimmers were able to mingle with professional athletes at a meet that saw 10 new records fall. Highlights included a stunning 1:41.79 in the 200 IM by Darian Townsend (9th fastest time ever) and a rare 18.9 by Josh Schneider in the 50 Freestyle Shoot-Out.
AAAA swimmers set 16 new team records in OKC. It was by far and away the best meet we ever had there as a team. We had a slew of in-season and lifetime best times. We also had one new NCSA Junior Cut by David Christie in the 200 Breast. Canaan Campbell, David Christie Jr., Daniel Christie, Gretchen Frick and Cobe Garcia all had second swims at night at the meet.
This came on the heels of setting 20-plus team records the weekend prior at the Midwest Winter Classic. Josh Florence took charge of the 11-12 Boys in his last meet as a 12 year old. He wanted to crack the top 20 in the country again and did just that in the 500 free on night one. Our 12-Under swimmers won more events and heats than any other Midwest Classic before. Also, Ainsley Krug got her first sectional cut (100 Back) as a 12 year old and Marian Frick got her Pro-Am cut (100 Breast) as a 12 year old. Payton Krug and JT Amrein swam to AAAA National Age Group times, placing them in the top percentile for 10-Under swimmers in the country.
We had swimmers Evan Dusslier, Justin Lee, Kathryn Bach, Maddie Dean, Mary Reed-Weston, Stephen Johnson, Ava Cormaney, Cobe Garcia, Morgan Jones, Lucy Sirimongkhon-Dyck, Sydney Sirimongkhon-Dyck, Janet Stefanov, Abigail Frye, Payton Krug, Cierra Campbell, JT Amrein, Ainsley Krug, Josh Florence, Daniel Christie and David Christie make finals at night. AAAA dominated the competition winning 6 of the 16 High Point awards:
1st – 10-Under Girls – Payton Krug
2nd – 10-Under Boys – JT Amrein
1st – 11-12 Girls – Ainsley Krug
1st – 11-12 Boys – Josh Florence (USA 12 year old Ranking of 20th in 500 Free)
2nd – 13-14 Boys – Daniel Christie
2nd – Open Boys – David Christie Jr.
Overall, we have set 52 team records this season (see below), proving that we are indeed headed in the direction of one the most successful seasons ever for AAAA. When you combine this with the fact that our numbers have grown to new heights and include so many wonderful new families… that we had such an amazing and record breaking year for Swim-a-thon by raising over $17,000… that we have had (3) swimmers grace the National Top 20 Age Group Rankings (currently 1)… we hosted a successful Winter Qualifier meet and Senior Circuit meet in the span of a month and a half… that our Age Group Coach was named Head All-Star Coach and that we have (7) athletes on the team… that we have had (3) athletes sign to swim in college… That we continue to boast the best and most consistent coaching staff around…
One might say we have had a spectacular finish to the 2013 campaign… and this doesn’t even include accolades from the end of last SCY season and the LCM season. Way to go AAAA! To all of the AAAA coaches – thank you for your hard work. A special thanks to Cassie Campbell for her hard work over the years with AAAA as she now steps away. We are forever grateful for your help in pioneering this team.
To everybody – Happy New Year – bring on 2014!
