The official results are in for the 2013 Swim-A-Thon and boy did AAAA rock! Our team was 8th place in the 75-150-swimmer team division. This is our highest national finish ever and one we should be very proud of. A big congrats to all who contributed and participated. We could not have done this without you. Whenever a team goes to a meet that is scored as a team competition and your team does well – it is a big deal. It’s an even bigger deal when over 88% of those athletes who contributed to the total point count at the meet were 14 and under. This past weekend featured great performances by 7 AAAA swimmers at the Annual Midwest All-Stars Meet here in Lawrence. The competition traveled from near and far as our LSC, Missouri Valley Swimming, took second to Colorado. Midwestern, Iowa and South Dakota rounded out the top 5 teams. AAAA Puts 7 Swimmers on All-Star Team The following AAAA swimmers were selected to the 2014 Missouri Valley Swimming All-Star team. We had a very successful December and capped it off with a great trip to the Oklahoma City Pro-Am Swim Meet. AAAA swimmers were able to mingle with professional athletes at a meet that saw 10 new records fall. Highlights included a stunning 1:41.79 in the 200 IM by Darian Townsend (9th fastest time ever) and a rare 18.9 by Josh Schneider in the 50 Freestyle Shoot-Out. Lauren Amrein will be attending William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. She has earned the Presidential Scholarship for academics and will be swimming for the Cardinals. We have enjoyed Lauren on Ad Astra as she is a great leader, always shows positive sportsmanship, and gives 100 percent when racing. Not only did Ad Astra do a phenomenal job of hosting the Midwest Qualifier- we did just as well in the water. We had 44 athletes compete in the meet with many swimmers achieving new time standards. There were 514 total swimmers in the meet. We had seven swimmers achieve the ‘A’ Time Standard in an event qualifying them for the Midwest Classic this upcoming weekend. What a great turnout for our make-up Trunk or Treat on Wednesday! We had 61 swimmers participate with several competing in their first sanctioned meet. This is a huge step in our program. Meet participation is important to our team and our coaches. Watching the swimmers race is helpful for us as we can now spend time on the details of what we saw when they swam. You could feel the Quad A presence on the pool deck on Wednesday! Thank you parents that timed during the meet....
